POMONA IN COLOR. - Research and Documentary
This documentary project was developed as an extension of the Walking is Still Honest coffee table book, exploring Pomona and its transformation from an overlooked area into a thriving arts district. The project aimed to tell a deeper story about community resilience, cultural identity, and artistic growth while also addressing the challenges currently faced by local artists and creatives. The goal was to produce a compelling 15 minute short-form documentary that highlighted the city’s historical, social, and economic development while raising awareness of ongoing community efforts and issues surrounding support for the arts. To achieve this, I conducted extensive historical research, organized and filmed interviews with local historical societies, libraries, arts committees, and artists, and curated original footage to strengthen the narrative. The final documentary successfully captures Pomona’s cultural evolution and creative spirit, delivering an impactful story that celebrates local identity while encouraging conversation about the sustainability and future of the arts within the community.
