WALKING IS STILL HONEST - Photography book
This project was developed as both a standalone piece and the conceptual foundation for the Pomona in Color documentary, focusing on Holt Avenue in Pomona, an area recognized for its cultural vibrancy as well as its social challenges. The project explored the contrast between the community’s rich identity and the stigma surrounding issues such as crime, drug activity, and street-level survival. To capture this reality, I conducted a five-mile observational walk from Indian Hill Boulevard to Lewis Park, documenting the environment through photography that highlighted street art, graffiti, local residents, and candid everyday moments. Using high-exposure imagery and a documentary-style approach, I focused on revealing humanity, resilience, and authenticity while avoiding sensationalized portrayals. The final coffee table book presents a balanced and empathetic perspective of Holt Avenue, successfully reshaping perceptions of the area while establishing the visual and narrative direction for the Pomona in Color documentary.
