ART HISTORY DEPARTMENT AT CAL POLY POMONA - Newsletter Publication
The Art History department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona faced limited opportunities for students to gain professional experience in publishing, portfolio development, and editorial work. To address this need, the newly established Art History Collective, which I founded and currently serve as president of, launched a volunteer-driven newsletter project designed to provide students with hands-on experience in writing, editing, and publication design. The objective was to create a professional newsletter that showcased original student work, including articles, research abstracts, and journalistic pieces, while promoting the department to the university community and prospective students. I led the planning, budgeting, funding, editorial structure, and visual design of the publication, while also mentoring contributors through the writing, research, and editing process to help transform academic work into publishable content. The final newsletter successfully provided students with tangible publishing experience that strengthened their portfolios and resumes while also contributing to greater visibility and recruitment for the Art History department.
